Importance of the profile:
You may need this test if you have a high risk of cancer, either due to symptoms or family history.
CA-125: This test measures the amount of the protein called CA-125 in the blood. Very high levels of CA-125 are found in females with Ovarian Cancer. This test also can be used for women who already have ovarian cancer to monitor their treatment.
CA 15-3: Cancer antigen 15-3 is used as a tumour marker to monitor a patient’s response to breast cancer treatment.
CA 19-9: This test looks for antigens called cancer antigen 19-9 in your blood. High levels of CA 19-9 are often a sign of pancreatic cancer. High levels can also be a sign of other cancers or certain noncancerous disorders, such as infections in the liver, gallbladder and pancreas.
Carcinoembryonic Antigen: This test is used to check how well treatment is working in certain types of cancer, particularly bowel cancer.
Alpha-fetoprotein: This test helps to confirm or or rule out a diagnosis of liver cancer or cancer of the ovaries. It is also used to monitor cancer treatment.
