Importance of the profile:
This test helps to diagnose diabetes by measuring the amount of glucose in the blood.
Glycosylated Haemoglobin evaluates the average amount of glucose in the blood over the last 2 to 3 months and has mostly replaced the other tests used to screen for diabetes. Diabetes is diagnosed if HbA1c is 48 mmol/mol or above.
Diabetes may also be indicated if glucose and/or ketones are present but this test is not sensitive or specific enough for diagnosing or monitoring patients.
